Morning Briefing for pub, restaurant and food wervice operators

Mon 28th Jan 2013 - Breaking News - Orchid Pub Company
Orchid Pub Company creates new quality pubs division: Managed operator Orchid has created a new umbrella group of quality pubs called ‘Do Drop Inns’. A customer-facing name to identify the current Modern British pubs as part of a recognised, trusted group but with their own unique feel, Do Drop Inns will drive retail initiatives and put learning from other Orchid divisions into practice. Inspired by the group’s ‘Dew Drop Inn’ pub in Oxford, ‘Do Drop Inns’ will be rolled out in early 2013, giving a stamp of approval that customers will learn to look out for and trust. “The Dew Drop Inn epitomises everything a good British pub should be about – it’s a community local for regulars with plenty of character, cask ale, a warm welcome and great food – and those are exactly the traits that all our Do Drop Inns will display,” said Simon Dodd, commercial and people director at Orchid Group. “Each pub under Do Drop Inns will retain its individuality and name, but by being part of the Do Drop Inns we can assure customers of high standards in every area across every single pub.” Do Drop Inns has been developed following the success of Orchid’s Pizza Kitchen Bars division. These pizza pubs have been “hugely successful and demonstrate that customers love individuality and independence but also want the reassurance of a group pub”. Dew Drop Inns includes 30 pubs - as the new incarnation of the Modern British division it could become one of the most profitable sectors for the pub company. The company stated: “For customers, Do Drop Inns will offer the sought-after experience of a traditional British pub. With a great food and drink offer, including cask ales, classic pub entertainment, a warm welcome and excellent service, they will be the ideal choice for whiling away the hours. Working closely with Cask Marque, the pubs will be proud to deliver a quality pint, or half, of real ale every time. For those new to ale, the Try Before You Buy offer and tasting advice from staff will lead the way. The selection of wines makes up a carefully crafted list, from well-knowns to quirky moderns. By working closely with Bibendum, the pubs can offer wines for any occasion and to compliment all dishes.” Do Drop Inns will showcase the “best British pub food with the perfect blend of classics and new flavours”. Menus are updated with the seasons to ensure fresh produce is used as much as possible, and meat is from British Red Tractor Assured farms. Food offers will run throughout the week, including the Diamond Club for over 50s, giving them 25% off dishes, making meals even tastier and easy on the budget. The club is free to join and the discount is valid all day Monday to Friday excluding Bank Holidays. Classic pub events from quizzes to live sports matches on the big screens will make the pubs appealing to everyone from families to groups of friends. Dodd added: “Everyone gets a warm welcome and fantastic service, and by embracing the unique character and history of each pub, Orchid can create community locals for regulars to enjoy as if they were a home from home.”
