Charles Wells and Yummy add third pub: Bedford brewer and pub operator, Charles Wells has announced it’s extending its partnership with multiple operators Yummy Pub Co to refurbish and revitalise a London pub with a prime location. The Victoria in Bow, East London will be the third pub in which the companies have a shared interest following highly successful developments under lease agreements at The Somerstown Coffee House in Euston and The Gorringe Park in Tooting. Yummy Pub Co also run a further two pubs – The Grove Ferry Pantry Pub and Inn in Kent and The Wiremill in Surrey. The Victoria is a three storey property in the vibrant East End, between Mile End and Hackney and will undergo a major refurbishment prior to its anticipated reopening in the second week of August. This will include converting the cellar into a useable trading space, installing an open kitchen upstairs and designing a secret walled garden to the outside. Charles Wells operations director Craig Mayes said: “We’ve developed a very productive partnership with Yummy Pub Co and enjoy working with such a motivated and inspirational team. By sharing ideas and working through the logistics fairly and honestly we have put together a plan that will give The Victoria a new lease of life. Our previous collaborations have been incredibly successful and we’re all excited about working on another landmark London pub together.” Tim Foster, Yummy founder added: “We’ll be taking influences from all of our other sites and implementing the lessons we’ve learned to bring all the best bits together at The Victoria. Customers should expect to see our trademark British Tapas menu, the Cosy Kettle cocktail speakeasy and a supper club concept as well as some individual identity and colour for The Victoria. We love the way that the Charles Wells team is quick to react when we all recognise a pubs potential and continue to offer flexible support – even when we want to try something that’s not common in the archetypal traditional British pub, which is Yummy through and through.” Charles Wells received the accolade of Pub Company Operations Team of the Year at The Publican Awards 2014, with its multiple operator partnerships recognised as a key driver to success. Yummy recently reported that every one of its sites sales were up year on year +29% overall with The Somerstown Coffee House trading at +42% and expect The Victoria to quickly establish itself within the flourishing Yummy portfolio. Mayes added: “We have the evidence of what Tim, Anthony and Jason can achieve and have every confidence of developing another thriving business together at The Victoria. I’m looking forward to the ‘Yummification’ of a third Charles Wells pub and believe our continued teamwork provides a blueprint of how we can work effectively with multiple operators and highly motivated licensees.”
