Charles Wells launches new country kitchen concept in France: Charles Wells France, the French division of the Bedford-based family brewer Charles Wells, has unveiled a new trading concept with the launch of a new site, the English Country Kitchen, in Bordeaux. The company already had ten pubs operating in four French cities, Paris, Toulouse, Montpellier and Lyons. The new site, which is run as a traditional tea room, serves classic English dishes and desserts including afternoon tea alongside a range of British beers and ciders, in a setting of a traditional farmhouse kitchen. French cuisine and wine have also been incorporated into the menu. Ed Robinson, communications and marketing manager at Charles Wells France, said: "Taking the traditional English pub experience to France has worked extremely well, so we wanted to explore how we could build on this with other trading models. English Country Kitchen offers the great English comfort food we all love in a relaxed, homely environment, from sticky toffee pudding through to a full English afternoon tea. To add real versatility to the site we have also created a great range of English beers, as well as entwining some French dishes into the menu. It is completely different to any of our other sites in France, and has had a fantastic reception with locals, who love its individuality.”
