Morning Briefing for pub, restaurant and food wervice operators

Mon 27th Apr 2015 - BrewDog in advanced talks on £3m US production site
BrewDog in advanced talks on £3m US production site in Ohio: The Scottish brewer and retailer BrewDog has revealed that it is in advanced talks to open a production facility in Columbus, Ohio. Propel reported in January that the California-based Stone Brewing company had offered to introduce BrewDog to key brewing locations on the US East Coast, where it came close to an opening itself, with Columbus, Ohio its number one suggestion. Stone Brewing's chief executive, Greg Koch, wrote: “Our good friends at Scotland’s BrewDog are potentially looking for a US spot to locate a production facility, tasting room and perhaps even a restaurant.” A spokesman for BrewDog said this morning: “We are delighted to announce that we are in advanced discussions for a site in Columbus, Ohio that would house our US production brewery. We will hopefully be able to provide you all with more of an update on this as soon as we can. In the meantime, we will continue to work hard to make this plan a reality.” Last week BrewDog reported that it would like to invest £3m on setting up a production facility in the US, as it launched a £25m fundraising. Meanwhile, the company has agreed heads of terms for a flagship London BrewDog site in the middle of Soho. It said: “More details on this one will be announced at our AGM, but you can expect all the grit, glamour and cosmopolitan craziness that defines Soho.” An opening in the Merchant City area of Glasgow is scheduled for July. BrewDog said: “After a few minor delays, the designs are finalised, the drawings are out to tender and this mega-site will feature a full kitchen with a new food offering, 30 killer craft taps and an integrated BottleDog. It will be open at the end of July. The site is at the corner of Hutcheson Street and Garth Street, in the heart of Glasgow’s vibrant Merchant City.” BrewDog is also due to obtain the keys for a site in Berlin in September. It said: “We are just starting work on the designs here, so expect this one to be up and running by the end of 2015 as we look to shake up the most conservative beer market in Europe. BrewDog Berlin will be at Ackerstrasse 28, which is in Mitte.” Progress is also being made on a second site in Leeds. “We are just in the process of appointing the contractor to do the renovation work on this site for us,” the company said. “We are looking to open in early-mid July. The new bar is located at Crispin Lofts, on the corner of North Street and New York Road, at the southern edge of Lovell Park.” BrewDog has also secured a Brighton venue. where the plans have just been finalised. “We are looking at late July for our first south coast site,” the company said. “We will be turning the space into a craft beer Mecca, a library of fermented masterpieces from all over the world. BrewDog Brighton will be at 52-54 Grand Parade.” BrewDog will also open its first BottleDog north of the border, in New Town, Edinburgh. The company said: “Expect over 250 different bottles and cans, plus a dedicated growler filling station offering takeaway draught beer from BrewDog and cutting edge guest kegs. BottleDog Edinburgh is due to open in August 2015 and can be found at 25a Dundas Street.” Meanwhile, it is working on a second bar in Edinburgh. “This one is still top secret," the company said, "but we have secured a deal on a second Edinburgh bar location and are just in the process of licensing it.” BrewDog Oslo will open in late May over two floors at Markveien 57, Grünerløkka. Its third BrewDog bar in Italy, on the Via Del Monte Oppio in Rome, will open this summer. BrewDog Brussels, directly opposite the central station, will be open later this year. However, BrewDog Angel, in North London, has “stalled a little due to some planning and licenses setbacks”. The company said: “We have now tweaked the original concept and are looking to open a BottleDog Store & BrewDog Bar hybrid in the heart of Islington. Our new licence application for this concept is under way, so we will hopefully be able to get cracking soon.”
