Thu 22nd Oct 2015 - BrewDog unveils bar openings and ideas for 2016
BrewDog unveils bar openings and ideas for 2016: Scottish brewer and retailer BrewDog has unveiled its plans for 2016 with a pipeline of new bars and improvements to its beer and food offering. The company stated: “Where are we at with some of the upcoming sites for BrewDog bars? Here’s a rapid-fire list of sites in the pipeline, and how they are getting on: Dalston, London: work starts here in a couple of weeks. Expect a BottleDog, bar and tasting room, and pilot brew kits earmarked for the public to brew their own creations! The Newington Fix: we are on track with our coffee and beer emporium for Edinburgh: it will be open in the new year. Norwich: we now have a site in Norwich at the former Hideout Bar on Queen Street – and conversion work begins there next month! Southampton: unfortunately our plans for Southampton have been delayed somewhat, but we are determined to get over the line here and will open a bar in the city next year. Aberdeen II: our new flagship bar for our home city is being constructed as we speak. Stay tuned! Stirling: another site where work is about to commence; we have secured a location for BrewDog Stirling and work is set to begin there next week. York: as we have noted on the blog before, we have a site in Micklegate in this fantastic beery city, and our application is currently in front of York City Council. Cambridge: another city we are on the verge of announcing officially is one we have wanted to be in for a while. Expect news in the new year about BrewDog Cambridge! Also, we have confirmed sites for bars in Amsterdam, Warsaw and Hong Kong – opening next year!” It also has its eye on sites in London at Brixton, King's Cross and Peckham along with Dublin, Oxford, Belfast, Exeter, Inverurie, Hull, Canterbury, Gloucester, Inverness, Lincoln, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Reading, Swansea, Derby and a second site in Birmingham. The company also hopes to open a bar in Clerkenwell, London, before Christmas while sites in Berlin, Finland – its second in the country – and Rome are expected to be up and running before the end of 2015. BrewDog also unveiled plans for its beer range, improved food and coffee offering, more takeaway beer longer opening hours and being a meeting place in the day. Beer range: “We are looking to feature more of the work of our fellow brewers here in the UK. So as well as rocking amazing imports from across the pond, we will major in beers from British craft breweries at the top of their game. We will also introduce more fruit beers into our bars to give a little more variety, and following on from the Jet Black Heart announcement, we are committed to all our bars getting a nitro line next year!” Takeaway: “We want 2016 to be the year we ace takeaway beer from our bars. So expect more focus on growler fills – and a widespread extension of our trial of DogTap’s Crowler machine (draft cans to go!) plus a series of integrated BottleDogs in our existing bars. We’ve already talked about the BottleDog inside DogHouse Merchant City – but the good citizens of Liverpool and Leicester might also notice a change there in the future! Another thing we are going to introduce is something our fans have long asked for – Click & Collect. Order beer from our online shop, and pick it up in person from a BrewDog bar!” Food: “Our remit for food in 2016 is very, very simple. We want nothing less than to make it as good as our beer. With that in mind we have recently welcomed to the team the amazing Wyatt Shevloff to develop, streamline and ace the food offerings in our bars. Stand by for a blog post all about Wyatt and the specifics of what he is about to bring on our network of BrewDog bars, but we are totally committed to offering the best food options we can, and pairing them with the beers you can find pouring from our bars!” Coffee: “There are so many parallels with craft beer and artisan coffee – the commitment of the people involved, the skill of the preparation and serve, and the inventiveness of outlook. For 2016, we are making coffee a priority for our bars – and to do so we are partnering with two of the best in the business. With Glasgow’s amazing Dear Green Roastery supplying all of our bars, we are also working with Edinburgh institution BrewLab on the artistry of serving coffee. Both of these companies have taken coffee to the next level – and we can’t wait to get their know-how in our bars.” Opening times: “We know how it is, when you’re having a great night and it comes to a close too abruptly, or you are after somewhere in a city to head to for an early bite. That’s why next year we will be looking at the opening hours of our entire bar division. We would love for the bars to unbolt the shutters a little earlier for breakfasts (something which some of our bars offer already) – and likewise, wherever possible we are looking to extend in the evening later to let people enjoy our beers for another hour or so. This is something we are already working on, so stay tuned!” Beer Schools: “Tastings, tastings, tastings. The best way to appreciate amazing craft beer is to sample it – there’s no better mechanism! So we are looking at a significant upgrade of our Beer Schools in our bars. As it’s all about knowledge, we’ll try to ensure a certified cicerone is leading the school, and passing on what they have learned about beer and brewing. We are also going to give them more variety; have Beer Schools as something you can buy – or gift – on our online store, and also round up each one with a cool interactive quiz!” Meeting place: “We want to have our bars as somewhere to head during the day, for a meeting, to catch up on some coursework, or just to chill out with a copy of Hop Propaganda and a beer. We have recently taken into our bars team Kyle Cowper – a dedicated interiors evangelist – and we will be looking at the way each bar feels during the day just as much as when it is packed to the rafters with beer fans of an evening!”
