Harry Ramsden makes international debut as new leisure format lands in Malaysia: Fish and chip chain Harry Ramsden, owned by Boparan Restaurant Group, has made its international debut with a new leisure format, Propel has learned. Harry Ramsden has launched The Laughing Fish by Harry Ramsden after partnering with Genting Malaysia to open at Resorts World Genting, Genting Highlands – the integrated resort on the peak of Mount Ulu Kali. The concept has been specially created for Resorts World in a setting where the “heritage and provenance of Britain’s longest-established restaurant brand is celebrated in the decor and on the plate”. The menu features classic British dishes including full English breakfast and traditional Sunday roast, all served with a Harry Ramsden twist, as well as its signature fish and chips. The outlet also features a separate takeaway counter. Harry Ramsden chief executive Tom Crowley said: “The opening in Malaysia confirms the international ambition we have for Harry Ramsden. The Laughing Fish by Harry Ramsden will particularly thrill Malaysian and international guests looking for a real English pub experience. At Resorts World, we’re offering a classic British pub menu including our world-famous fish and chips and served in surroundings that symbolise everything that is great about Britain and Harry Ramsden.” Dato’ Edward Holloway, executive vice-president of leisure and hospitality at Resorts World Genting, added: “Resorts World Genting attracts visitors from all over Asia and we have introduced many international brands here at Sky Avenue. When we thought of fish and chips from the UK, we thought of Harry Ramsden. We quickly struck a deal to open The Laughing Fish by Harry Ramsden. We are proud to say this is the first and only fish and chip shop of its kind in Resorts World Genting and Malaysia. It is common knowledge Malaysians love visiting the UK. With Harry Ramsden synonymous with England’s cuisine, having Harry Ramsden here was an easy decision.”
