Sainsbury’s partners with Deliveroo for pizza delivery trial: Sainsbury’s has become the first major supermarket to partner with Deliveroo, offering its store-baked pizza to customers. The service has launched in five stores – Cambridge, Selly Oak, West Hove, Pimlico and Hornsey. Sainsbury’s said the pilot was part of its drive to “develop and implement digital technologies to improve customer experience and make sure they can shop quickly and conveniently whenever, wherever and however they want”. The trial will run for two months offering almost 50 pizzas and complementary Sainsbury’s products such as sweet and savoury snacks, sides, salads and soft drinks. A wider range of products will be added to the offer during the trial. Sainsbury’s plans to keep the pizza counters at the trial stores open later to cater for predicted demand. Clodagh Moriarty, Sainsbury’s group chief digital officer, said: “Our trial with Deliveroo brings our great-value hot food direct to customers’ homes. We’re committed to making it as quick and easy as possible for our customers to shop with us and we’ll listen to their feedback throughout the trial to understand how we can best serve their hot food delivery needs. We’re excited to see what our customers think before deciding if, how and where we go next with the offer.” Deliveroo commercial director Justin Landsberger added: “We are excited to launch Sainsbury’s on Deliveroo and bring even more choice to our customers around the UK.” Although Sainsbury’s is the first supermarket to team up with Deliveroo, other outlets such as Nisa, BP and independent supermarkets offer a wide range of grocery, tobacco and alcohol through the service.
