Famously Proper appoints Gavin Cox as CEO as Simon Wilkinson steps down: Famously Proper, the parent company of the Byron and Mother Clucker brands, has appointed Gavin Cox as chief executive. Cox, who joined the business recently, brings a wealth of experience from major food organisations, in particular Adelie Foods, McCambridge Group and Street Eats. Famously Proper said his expertise, specifically focused on growth, fits with the company’s plans for the next stage in the development of the Byron and Mother Clucker brands. He takes over from Simon Wilkinson, who joined Byron three years ago and has been central in helping successfully navigate the business when it was acquired by Famously Proper in 2020. Famously Proper stated: “During a challenging time for the whole hospitality sector, he has led the reopening of the restaurants post lockdown, accelerated the development of its digital presence, and managed the transition of the main supply chain provider.” Wilkinson said: “I have reached a stage in my life when I am looking for a change of direction. I believe my job is done and I am confident I am leaving Famously Proper in a very strong position to capitalise on future growth opportunities.” Famously Proper chairman Sandeep Vyas said: “We thank Simon very much for his hard work and commitment to the business and wish him the very best for the future. As the company shifts into the next phase of its development and expansion, we are delighted to have Gavin Cox at the helm, and we will continue to execute on our strategy of building a category leading platform delivering great experience to our consumers through destination restaurants and frictionless on demand digital access to great tasting food.” Last year, Byron was sold via pre-pack administration to investment vehicle Calveton UK under the newly formed company Famously Proper for £4m. Famously Proper acquired Mother Clucker, which was founded in 2012 by Ross Curnow and Brittney Bean, in May this year.
