McDonald’s trials MyMcDonald’s Rewards in UK: McDonald’s has begun a trial of its global digital reward scheme, MyMcDonald’s Rewards, in the UK. The pilot scheme is operating at ten restaurants in the north west of England. Users have to download the MyMcDonald’s app and then sign-up and opt-in to MyMcDonald’s Rewards. When they order on the app they will earn points automatically, with £1 being the equivalent of 100 points. For those ordering via a kiosk, front-counter or drive-thru, users will need to generate a unique code, located in the “code” section of the app and give this before they order. Once a user reaches 1,500 points they can redeem their first reward. For 1,500 points, users can get a small fries, medium salad, regular McCafé, mini McFlurry or a hash brown. For 2,500 points, they can redeem a Vegetable Deluxe, Bacon Mayo Chicken, Cheesy Bacon Flatbread, medium fries or Double Cheeseburger. For 4,000 points they can have a Big Mac, Double Sausage and Egg McMuffin, Large Crispy Chicken Salad, six Chicken McNuggets or McChicken Sandwich. McCafe stamps are moving to MyMcDonald’s Rewards. Any unredeemed free McCafe drinks will be kept in the offers and rewards section of the app and any existing stamps will be converted to 300 MyMcDonald’s Rewards points on opt-in to the MyMcDonald’s Rewards scheme. From time to time, McDonald’s will, at its own discretion, offer bonus campaigns where users can earn extra points on specific items or orders. Points will expire on the last day of the 12th month after they have been earned and the scheme is only available on orders made through the app and not by third-party delivery. McDonald’s stated: “We are excited to be trialling our new rewards programme, MyMcDonald’s Rewards, in a number of selected restaurants.” The restaurants where the scheme is operating are Church Street and Linkway in St Helens, Aintree, Formby, County Road in Kirkby, Kensington and Switch Island in Liverpool, Runcorn, Skelmersdale and Widnes. MyMcDonald’s Rewards was launched in the US in October with more than 12 million people signing up in the first month. At the time, the company said it planned to launch the scheme in the UK and Australia in 2022. Chief executive Chris Kempczini said: “MyMcDonald’s Rewards is just the first example of how we will lead as a digital innovator by leveraging our scale and engaging with our customers in a truly integrated way. For the past 18 months, our digital customer engagement, global marketing, data analytics and restaurant solutions teams have worked to standardise our infrastructure and align the system against some common frameworks. These efforts ultimately paved the way for MyMcDonald’s Rewards, our first global digital offering that we are now deploying across our largest markets.”
