Exclusive – Tossed signs first franchise partner, sets sights on 50-store nationwide rollout: Healthy eating brand Tossed, which operates 13 stores in London, has signed its first franchise partner as it looks to become the “UK’s leading healthy eating brand”, with a target of opening 50 franchise stores over the next four years, Propel has learned. The company will partner with Goldbean, led by Badar Zaman, a hospitality operator with 20 years multi-site franchise experience with Costa Coffee. The first site under the new agreement will open in central Nottingham this summer. Neil Sebba, managing director of Tossed, told Propel: “We are delighted to sign Badar as our first franchisee. We feel he is the perfect fit for us – his regional knowledge, experience and enthusiasm will be invaluable to ensuring Tossed’s success as a platform for his further expansion. We received extremely positive local feedback from the public in Nottingham, and we’re excited to be opening our first store there. This promises to be the first of many – we are targeting 50 franchise stores to be opened over the next four years, and Badar is an ideal partner with a great first location.” Zaman, who currently trades ten Costa Coffee stores, said: “Nottingham is a vibrant, growing city with a booming student population and a strong foodie culture. Tossed’s focus on fresh, nutritious food and bold, modern branding really aligns with my own lifestyle and will be perfect fit for this location. My family and I are seeking to build something together here that we can be proud of and Tossed is exactly that. We believe it has huge potential for growth. We’re excited to open our first store, and have plans for several more.” Propel revealed in January that Tossed had unveiled plans for nationwide growth and was set to welcome franchise partners once more to share in its “innovative technology-led approach” and scale across the country. The move followed four years of the brand re-establishing itself in the capital, and came off the back of its best year of trading for the 12 months to 29 September 2024, with record sales and profitability. Tossed has been working with franchise consultant Andy Hulbert, of Bee Smart, on its proposals and sourcing and onboarding franchisees. Tossed will feature in the next UK Food & Beverage Franchisor Database, which will be sent to Premium subscribers on Wednesday, 14 May and currently features a total of 340 companies. A Premium Club subscription costs an annual sum of £495 plus VAT for operators and £595 plus VAT for suppliers. Companies can now have an unlimited number of people receive access to Premium Club for a year for £995 plus VAT – whether they are an operator or supplier.
